Raleigh – The North Carolina Department of Commerce has awarded a matching award totaling $75,000 to Collaborations Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to support the cutting edge science on developing new drugs for HIV.

“Collaborations Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (CPI) are honored to receive a matching grant award under the FY 26-27 One North Carolina SBIR/STTR Matching Funds Program Solicitation. This was awarded to match our recent NIAID SBIR – ‘Long-term formulation for combination antiviral treatment of HIV’. We have identified a new class of anti-HIV compounds and will next assess it in combination with other drugs currently used for treating this disease as well as developing a sustained release formulation with our collaborators at RTI. Being able to dose this potential new drug every 6 to 12 months would be a goal for differentiating it for treating HIV. This funding will go towards helping with our legal fees for patents for this project over the next few years. We are immensely grateful to the One North Carolina small business program for providing this funding which is our 3rd such grant since starting the company!” said  Sean Ekins, CEO, CPI.

This funded project represents just one of the several drugs in the pipeline at Collaborations Pharmaceuticals, Inc. which has a focus on rare and neglected diseases. In addition, the company licenses its machine learning software and models as well as performs fee for service work with other companies.
